1)
Since the leg is basically a cylinder that's what we start out
with. 8 sides and 5 heights tall.

We twist the upper
edges a little to follow the flow of the thigh muscles and start
forming the knees and calves. |

Then we subdivide the 8-sided
cross section to 16. We also add more loops in the height for
detail. Add as much as the level of detail asks for.

Here's something I do to shape the thigh muscles as well as add
some more loops to later be attached to the crotch

this tutorial and we're done!
